You could say we got our start more than a hundred years ago, in the neighborhoods of old South Philly, where the Cheesesteak was first introduced and perfected.
But we’re younger than that.
In 1982, co-founders Ken Smith and Mark Turner opened the first Steak Escape store in the French Market in Columbus, Ohio. Like many of the Cheesesteak shops in South Philly, it was a small store. Which meant the only place big enough to fit the grill was right in front of their customers. But it turned out to be a good thing, because they discovered that people loved to watch the show as their meal was being prepared.
Now there are nearly 150 Steak Escape restaurants across the U.S. and Mexico, and soon to be in Bahrain.
Each one is built on the idea that the best way to treat a customer is to serve them quality food that’s freshly prepared before their eyes, in an atmosphere that’s full of fun.
We’re different here.
Even in our “hurry up” world, we still offer hot food prepared fresh-to-order. There aren’t many places that can make that claim anymore.
That’s why we use 100% steak, whole, white meat chicken breast, vine-ripened tomatoes, fresh onions and mushrooms, and real cheese, all chopped and sliced and ready to throw on the grill. And presented in a fresh-baked Grinder roll.
Our fresh approach to preparing food doesn’t end there. Our famous Fries were whole potatoes the night before. They are hand-cut every morning and blanched (cooked half-way through) to ensure freshness.
Likewise, our Lemonade comes from lemons that were whole the night before and squeezed fresh that morning.
From our made-to-order sandwiches to our grilled and chilled Salads and Smashed Potatoes to our ice-cold Lemonade.
